Post-Purchase Validation Experience

Objective: Redesign the post-purchase SSL certificate validation experience to simplify complex verification workflows and guide enterprise customers through every required step. The goal was to improve task visibility, reduce cognitive load, and create a clear, intuitive journey from purchase to certificate issuance.

Problem Definition

After purchasing an SSL certificate, customers had to complete multiple validation steps before their certificate could be issued. The existing experience was fragmented, making it difficult to understand progress, identify required actions, and complete the validation process efficiently.

Challenges

  • Multiple validation steps with different requirements.

  • Unclear progress throughout the validation journey.

  • Complex workflows spread across disconnected screens.

  • High cognitive load for enterprise customers.

  • Frequent support requests caused by user confusion.

Design Goals

The redesign focused on transforming a complicated validation process into a structured, user-friendly experience.

Key objectives included:

  • Creating a single validation workflow.

  • Improving visibility of progress and status.

  • Highlighting required actions.

  • Reducing friction throughout the journey.

  • Providing clear guidance for every validation step.

UX Improvements

The experience was redesigned using progressive disclosure, allowing users to focus only on the information relevant to their current task.

Key improvements:

  • Accordion-based workflow.

  • Clear validation timeline.

  • Better information hierarchy.

  • Consistent status indicators.

  • Simplified interaction patterns.

Solution

The new interface organized the entire validation journey into a single, structured experience where every step could be expanded when needed.

Users could immediately understand:

  • what had already been completed,

  • what required action,

  • what was currently in progress,

  • and what remained before certificate issuance.

Results

The redesigned experience made SSL certificate validation significantly easier to navigate for enterprise customers.

Outcomes included:

  • Clearer validation workflow.

  • Better visibility of progress.

  • Reduced cognitive load.

  • Faster task completion.

  • Scalable foundation for future validation requirements.
